Universitas Wiraraja (UNIJA) successfully held a Guest Lecture titled “The Role of Indonesias Foreign Policy and Diplomacy in Strengthening Religious Moderation” at Graha Sumekar. The event featured the Expert Staff for Inter-Institutional Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, who is also the Ambassador to Canada, Muhsin Syihab, as the keynote speaker.
UNIJAs Vice Rector I, Dr. Mujib Hannan, S.KM., S.Kep., Ns., M.Kes., in his opening remarks, emphasized the universitys commitment to creating a dynamic academic environment by adopting global cultures and ways of thinking. He revealed that UNIJA currently hosts nine international students from Malaysia and Timor-Leste.
“At UNIJA, we strive to introduce and strengthen the principle of religious moderation as a national identity that upholds peace and tolerance. This is crucial in addressing global challenges such as intolerance, extremism, and religion-based violence,” said Dr. Mujib Hannan.
He also added that Indonesias diplomacy always prioritizes the values of peace, tolerance, and justice as the foundation for strengthening religious moderation on the international stage.
“Indonesia has a long history of fostering interfaith harmony, which can serve as a model for the world. Through foreign policy and diplomacy, we can demonstrate that harmony and tolerance can be achieved,” he added.
This event provided students with insights into foreign policy strategies and the role of diplomacy in creating a peaceful and harmonious nation. Dr. Mujib emphasized the importance of students as the next generation in spreading the values of religious moderation within their communities.
Meanwhile, Muhsin Syihab explained that foreign policy and diplomacy in the context of religion have unique dynamics.
“We need to continuously enhance the values of tolerance, both in understanding religion and in inter-ethnic interactions. This is crucial for creating harmony in diversity,” he stated.
The event was also attended by UNIJAs Vice Rectors II and III, the Director of the Postgraduate Faculty of Law, faculty representatives, as well as members of the universitys Student Executive Board (BEM), Student Representative Council (DPM KM), student organizations (UKM), and student activity units (UKK).
