Seminar on the Role of Waqf, Zakat, and Sadaqah in Promoting Sharia Economic Growth Held at Wiraraja University

Sumenep � In an effort to enhance understanding of the role of waqf, zakat, and shodaqoh in the growth of the sharia economy, Universitas Wiraraja held a seminar titled "The Role of Waqf, Zakat, and Shodaqoh in Driving Sharia Economic Growth" on January 30, 2025. The event took place at Graha Sumekar, Universitas Wiraraja, starting at 08:30 WIB.

The seminar featured three distinguished speakers in their respective fields: K.H. Moh. Saleh A. Rahman, M.Pd.I. (Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) of Sumenep Regency), K.H. Abdul Wasid, M.Pd.I. (Head of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Sumenep), and Syahril, S.E., M.Ak. (Sharia Practitioner). They provided in-depth insights on how waqf, zakat, and shodaqoh can contribute to strengthening the sharia-based economy.

In his presentation, K.H. Moh. Saleh A. Rahman emphasized the importance of the Muslim community utilizing waqf as one of the instruments for economic development. Meanwhile, K.H. Abdul Wasid explained various government policies in managing zakat and waqf to improve community welfare. On the other hand, Syahril, S.E., M.Ak., offered practical perspectives on the application of sharia economics in business and finance.

The event was attended by university leaders, academics and researchers in the field of sharia economics, sharia economy practitioners including managers of waqf, zakat, and shodaqoh, as well as members of the general public interested in the topic. Additionally, various Islamic organizations participated, including MUI at the subdistrict and regency levels, daily administrators, Nahdlatul Ulama, Muhammadiyah, PERSIS (Islamic Union), LDII, Muslimat, Aisiyah, Fatayat, MUI-assisted MSMEs, Baznas, Pegadaian Syariah, banking representatives, and students.

This seminar was organized in collaboration with Bank BPRS Bhakti Sumekar, Universitas Wiraraja Madura, and various related institutions committed to developing the sharia economy in Indonesia. With high enthusiasm from participants, it is hoped that concrete steps will emerge to optimize the role of waqf, zakat, and shodaqoh as the main pillars of sharia economic growth in the future.
